Project C01: Engineering Consistent CPS Generations

This project addresses consistency management across product generations (PGE) in CPS development using the V-SUM approach. Modern CPS involve numerous heterogeneous models (e.g., CAD, function-embodiment, requirements) with overlapping information and spatial consistency constraints (e.g., physical dimensions of components). Changes within or across product generations—such as reusing and evolving artefacts—can cause inconsistencies, impacting deployed systems and requiring costly updates or certifications. Current manual adaptation is inefficient and error-prone. The project investigates how V-SUMs with explicit consistency rules can ensure consistency within and across generations, support semi-automated propagation of changes, and enable predictive impact analysis for informed design decisions. By unifying variability and evolution mechanisms across generations, the approach aims to provide scalable, automated consistency preservation and dependency management for PGE, reducing complexity and improving reliability in CPS lifecycle engineering.
