Project C04: Processes for Consistent CPS Engineering

This project investigates how V-SUM-based consistency management can enable agile CPS engineering by reducing reliance on infrequent, heavyweight coordination rounds. CPS development involves multiple disciplines and models, making traditional processes slow and rigid. Agile methods promise flexibility but increase inconsistencies due to frequent incremental changes. The project explores how semi-automated consistency preservation through V-SUM can support fast feedback loops, frequent validation, and integration across domains. Research focuses on identifying process triggers for consistency checks, propagating validation insights (including physical measurements) into design models, and adapting processes dynamically. The outcome includes an “agile process kit” with guidelines and process elements for integrating consistency management into agile workflows. This approach aims to combine agility with reliability, enabling CPS teams to react quickly to changes while maintaining consistency across models and domains, even in scenarios involving hardware with slower lifecycle speeds.
